Bronze portrait head of Jack Johnson (1878-1946), 19.25 inches high including marble plinth, fine patina, bears the legend: "Mercedes B. de Garimaldi." One of the great pugilists of the twentieth century, John Arthur "Jack" Johnson died in a North Carolina car crash after reportedly being refused service at a small diner near Raleigh. Cast zinc garden figure, 31 inches high. A dramatic rendering of a woman and child on the roof of a house, waves lapping at their feet, the woman desperately scanning the horizon for help. The atmosphere is akin to Winslow Homer's rescue scenes. This sculpture would be a fine addition to a seaside garden on Nantucket or The Vineyard.

Solid-cast bronze, mounted on rough pink granite. 21 inches (length) and 7 inches (ht.) Signed "Gustel". Gustel Morton's sculptures were modelled on real and imagined animals. Some were as common as the neighbor's dachshund while others inhabited the secret places of the mind. Sheet bronze, 11 inches max. ht. signed "Gunn" on base. Homer Gunn was born in Woonsocket, RI and raised in Uxbridge, Mass. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design from 1938 to 1941 and after graduating attended the Art Students League for an additional year. He taught from 1942 to 1957, last at Deerfield Academy.
