| Watercolors on paper, 15 x 22 inches plus mat and frame, signed "Farnum's Sawmill, North Andover/Cheever '50" lower right. Abbott Cheever's long career in art began at the age of 12. At 18, he received his first major commission, a cover for "National Sportsman", which magazine subsequently employed him to do many more covers. For most of his adult career, he was a teacher-at the Boston Museum School and Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass. Mostly for his personal pleasure, he created a small body of exceptional landscapes depicting the fast-disappearing rurality of Essex County. Farnum's Sawmill was located in North Andover, Mass. | ||
