| Oil on canvas, 24 x 20 inches plus frame, signed and dated verso, exhibition label. Bruckman was born in The Hague, Holland and studied at the Royal Academy of Art there. By the late 1940's he was in this country, exhibiting at New York City galleries. This painting has a Grand Central Galleries exhibition label on the stretcher. Below the signature is the date (1952) and, what was presumably his place of residence then, Chappaqua, New York. In 1953, Bruckman opened his summer studio, "The Royal Dutch Art Gallery" in bohemian Provincetown at the tip of Cape Cod. He exhibited at the Boston Arts Festival that year and took the popular first prize for his "Composition with Peaches." He maintained his Provincetown associations through the early 60's. | ||
